Slot Number Thermal Effects on Electrical Machines

چکیده

While electrical machine designers typically go to great lengths choose the optimal number of stator slots based on electromagnetic performance, often thermal aspects this selection are overlooked. This article investigates multi-domain impacts related slot selection, combining both and aspects. Taking an existing 42-kW 4-pole, 12-slot with Halbach-array surface-PM rotor, used within a more-electric marine engine as case study, performance different numbers investigated. The impact is compared considering losses, output torque its quality, well peak temperature. Experimental tests performed, verifying significant temperature reductions entitlements when from point view selected. Finally general guidelines for reduction provided.

Calculation of Slot Losses in High Frequency Electrical Machines

-As new magnetic materials as well as applications emerge in electromechanical conversion systems, one finds that electrical machines are increasingly moving away from the mainstream power frequency to much higher frequencies. This shift is mostly being driven by the fact that for the same power a higher speed machine is smaller in size. Operating at higher frequencies has its advantages on siz...

Slot fringing effect on the magnetic characteristics of the electrical machines

Due to the fringing effect, the magnetic flux in the air gap of electrical machines is reduced. This leads to the larger effective air gap length. For this reason, in the design stage of the electrical machines, a larger magnetic flux must be chosen. On the other hand, magnetic loading must be taken smaller than the value corresponding to the real air gap length. Currently, Carter coefficient i...

Thermal cure effects on electrical performance of nanoparticle silver inks

Physical, electrical, and morphological properties of thermally annealed silver nanoparticle thin films are described. These solutiondeposited nanoparticle thin films form highly conducting films at low curing temperatures via sintering due to the high surface area to volume ratio. Measured resistivity correlates with thickness decrease and densification, and can be explained by a simple geomet...

Micro-thermoelectric cooler: interfacial effects on thermal and electrical transport

The flows of heat and electricity in a column-type micro-thermoelectric cooler are analyzed by modeling the various interfacial resistances. Electron (barrier tunneling) and phonon (diffuse mismatch) boundary resistances at the thermoelectric/metal interface, and thermal non-equilibrium between electrons and phonons adjacent to this interface (cooling length), increase the thermal conduction re...

Fractional Slot Concentrated Windings: A New Method to Manage the Mutual Inductance between Phases in Three-Phase Electrical Machines and Multi-Star Electrical Machines

Mutual inductance is a phenomenon caused by the circulation of the magnetic flux in the core of an electrical machine. It is the result of the effect of the current flowing in one phase on the other phases. In conventional three-phase machines, such an effect has no influence on the electrical behaviour of the device. Although these machines are powered by power inverters, no problem should occ...
